How to maintain diesel generator sets

1. Selection of lubricating oil

Lubricating oil should be selected strictly in accordance with the grade and brand specified in the engine manual that comes with the unit. The correct selection of lubricating oil is very important for the normal operation and extended service life of the engine.

Lubricant selection is mainly based on API (American Petroleum Institute) quality grade classification and SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) viscosity grade classification. The quality grade of lubricating oil used in the engine should reach CF and CH grade (API). The viscosity of lubricating oil adopts the internationally accepted SAE grade standard. For example, the engine oil brand is SAE15W/30. Suitable for working environment temperature of -20℃~+25℃. Using multi-grade oil can also extend the oil change interval.

2. Use of coolant

The cooling system uses water as the cooling medium, which should be prepared by using treated soft water and adding a certain proportion of antifreeze and preservatives. Use soft water to prevent scale from forming in the cooling system and affecting the cooling effect of the engine (PH6-8). Purified drinking water is generally available in barrels.

Adding antifreeze to the cooling system can protect the engine from damage at low temperatures. At the same time, antifreeze generally has anti-corrosion functions.

In areas where antifreeze is not required, anti-corrosion additives should be added to the coolant, which can greatly reduce cylinder liner cavitation. But do not add preservatives to the coolant that is already equipped with antifreeze to avoid generating a large amount of foam and reducing the effectiveness of the coolant.

Both of these additives are harmful to the human body, so attention should be paid to safety.

3. Selection of fuel

The unit should use high-quality and first-class light diesel oil that conforms to the national standard (GB252-87).

The main indicator of diesel quality is sulfur content. Sulfur content higher than 0.5% has a great impact on the service life of the engine and shortens the oil change cycle. Inferior quality oil will cause the unit to have insufficient power, unstable speed, black smoke, severe carbon deposits, and knocking.

The usual choice of diesel is mainly based on the ambient temperature. Improper selection in cold areas may cause fuel condensation, making it difficult to start and operate the engine.
